After attaining a First-Class Bachelor of Music (with Honours) at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, Janell furthered her training at the Royal Academy of Music, achieving a Distinction in her Masters degree as well as the John Booth Prize for outstanding studentship.
As part of the Bloomsbury Quartet (which she co-founded and co-ran from 2017 to 2023), Janell was chosen as the 2018-19 Fellowship Ensemble of the Royal Academy of Music in partnership with Wigmore Hall Learning.
Concurrently, Janell developed her interest in filmmaking by becoming a self-taught filmmaker, producing short-form audiovisual works which were premiered at the Royal Academy of Music, BAFTA, and Viacom; during this process she also became a Finalist at the 2017 Vlogstar Challenge Competition.
More recently, Janell is completing a practice-based PhD at Goldsmiths University of London: part-funded by Goldsmiths UoL, HSBC, Santander, and the Royal Academy of Music, her research explores novel approaches to the as-yet-unexamined intersection of music video aesthetics and instrumental western art music.
